Obituary of William Fortmann

William (Bill) Seck Fortmann, of Leonia, passed away on Saturday, October 6th  at the age of 92.  Born in Englewood to Helen and Albert Fortmann of West New York, New Jersey.  He had an older brother, John, who passed away in 1980. They grew up together in Walden, New York and West New York, New Jersey. Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1944, and served as a Sergeant in the 381st Military Police Battalion. Bill was deployed to Belgium and Germany as part of the European theatre.  After the war, Bill began working at the First National City Bank (now Citibank) in New York City. Bill would continue on with the company for 35 years before retiring in 1981 as an Assistant Vice President. In October 1950, Bill married the love of his life Evelyn L. Schoer. They met while Evelyn was working at her family’s ice cream shop in West New York. They were married for 62 years before Evelyn passed away in July 2013.  Bill is survived by his loving daughter, Lynn, son-in-law John Kvilesz, and his grandchildren, Joseph and Lisa. Lynn will always treasure the cross-country car trips she took growing up with her parents. Bill always had a story to tell. His grandchildren will miss his war stories and tales of growing up in New York.   The family will receive their friends on Tuesday 4-8 pm, at the Frank Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home, 327 Main Street Fort Lee. Graveside services Wednesday 11 am Mt. Hebron Cemetery Montclair, NJ.  For information (201) 944-0100 or www.frankpatti.com
