Obituary of Otto W. Sommerhalter, Jr.

 

Sommerhalter, Jr., Otto, age 88, of Lakewood, formerly of Palisades Park, on Wednesday December 5, 2018.   Raised in West New York and Packanack Lake, Wayne, NJ.  He attended Memorial High School and later graduated Stevens Academy and the School of Modern Photography.   He was a proud Veteran of the Army who served in Korea as a tank commander in the 31st infantry, 7th division.  He was the recipient of 2 Bronze Stars and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge.  He was the owner of several businesses throughout his life including Sommerhalter Dairy, City Soda, and the Cold Cut Store.   He was a proud member of the Order of Alhambra and served as General Commander of Zamora Caravan #117.  He was also proud of his membership in the V.F.W and the Disabled American Veterans.   He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine (nee: Ame).  Devoted father of Sharon Podsada, David Sommerhalter (Paulette), Amy Sambogna (John), Judy Dinardi.  Cherished grandfather of 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  Dear brother of Kenneth Sommerhalter and the late Joan Faye.  The family will receive their friends on Sunday 3-7 pm at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street “opposite the Fort Lee Library”.  The funeral will leave Monday at  9:30 AM  for the celebration of his funeral mass in St. Michael’s  R.C.
