I am posting this a long time after John passed, but I want his family to know that I am one of many technology sales professionals who benefited from knowing John and Neil of JANCO.
While at Jade Systems, my client Barclays Capital had a very specific need: to replace aged 9" CRT monitors that gave traders the Bloomberg feed.But the firm wanted rugged, metal housing so that two or four of these could be stacked and not knocked over when angry traders would smack them after a bad moment. John knew a source that would customize color monitors and allow them to stack and be clamped together. A brief proof-of-concept led to a sale of hundreds of these monitors. I offered to buy him a celebratory drink. "Let's go have a nice bowl of soup instead".
A few years later, around Y2K Barclays was re-doing its trading floor at 222 Broadway and wanted state of the art flat screen LED monitors. John was representing NEC, which faced a "bake-off" against Nokia and IBM. NEC was voted best by the traders. But there was a catch: flat screen glass was in short supply. But John went up the ladder at NEC arguing for allocation based on getting such a marquee name as Barclays as a reference. NEC came through for John and Jade Systems, and the bonus I received for selling 900 monitors was large. I offered to treat he and Neil to lunch at a nice place. "No, save your money, let's just go to the diner for a nice bowl of soup".
Other sales success was realized because John and Janco had established a partnership with NVIDIA, whose single sign on graphics card allowed dual monitors to appear as one, an important requirement on trading floors in the early 2000's. John even got a friend of mine, James Donohue, a job as Channel Manager for NVIDIA. We sold hundreds of these to Chase Manhattan Bank trading floors.
John endeared himself to the owners of Jade Systems because they knew he could be trusted. It was always a pleasure to talk with him and then go out on sales calls. I am grateful to him for the successes we had together and want his family to know how much he was appreciated by IT industry professionals.

I met John and his partner Neal when I managed his account while working at Appian Graphics. He was a gentleman and a smart businessman. I really enjoyed spending time with him going to see customers and prospects. I learned a lot from John. I feel bad that I didn’t stay in touch with him. I could have used a friend like him after I left Appian. Rest In Peace John.
