Mary Ann and I have known Don for 40 years. He was always warm and friendly to everyone and showed a genuine interest in our family. What impressed me most was his years of dedication to St John's music ministry and the talent he brought to it. We know his years of faithful service to the Lord will be greatly rewarded in Heaven. God Bless you Don. We will miss you. Art

I have known Don for over 40 years and was privileged to be his friend and a member of his choir. Don was an incredible teacher and was always ready with a compliment. He had a genuine interest in our family and always made us feel special. Don, I was not prepared to say goodbye, but I will now continue my friendship with you in heaven. St. John’s will never be the same without you. Please remember the Kent family to Jesus! Miss you for now.....Mary Ann

Simply put - Don was a cherished member of the St. John's Community and a dear friend. I am blessed to have so many memories of our times together from singing at church to the glorious Mahler's Rersurrection Symphony at Julliard. I will be listening to the 5th movement in your memory praying that you are being welcomed into a place where there is no pain and suffering. I will miss you dearly.
5th Movement Mahler's Resurrection Symphony:
Rise again, yes, rise again,
Will you My dust,
After a brief rest!
Immortal life! Immortal life
Will He who called you, give you.
To bloom again were you sown!
The Lord of the harvest goes
And gathers in, like sheaves,
Us together, who died.
O believe, my heart, O believe:
Nothing to you is lost!
Yours is, yes yours, is what you desired
Yours, what you have loved
What you have fought for!
O believe,
You were not born for nothing!
Have not for nothing, lived, suffered!
What was created
Must perish,
What perished, rise again!
Cease from trembling!
Prepare yourself to live!
O Pain, You piercer of all things,
From you, I have been wrested!
O Death, You conqueror of all things,
Now, are you conquered!
With wings which I have won for myself,
In love's fierce striving,
I shall soar upwards
To the light which no eye has penetrated!
Die shall I in order to live.
Rise again, yes, rise again,
Will you, my heart, in an instant!
That for which you suffered,
To God shall it carry you!

A Person with a very kind and understanding heart, with ears always ready to listen to every word you say, and with great love for liturgy and music... that’s how I know Don for 11 years. We chatted and laughed through the years but never did I hear a single negative word against anybody coming from the mouth of Don. Such a great person! Thanks for the music... thanks for the company in the ministry at St. John’s. Rest In Peace, My dear friend.

I remember when Don first became part of St. John's. We have shared many laughs with over the years - as members of the Parish Council, the various ministry functions - Advent Vespers, Lenten Services, Holy Week and Easter Masses and Services, Christmas Masses and all the special Liturgies - First Holy Communions, Confirmations, Marriages and Funerals of my dear friends and family members, and of course, the Theater Ministry - America Sounds Its Music Show, in particular. I will miss his quick wit, asking me if his tie matched his shirt, his big welcoming heart and his beautiful music. Don, you will live on in our hearts, but will be sorely missed by all of us who loved you - for “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
“The song is ended, but the melody lingers on…”(Irving Berlin)
