Obituary of Joseph Yong Hyon Han

Dr. Joseph Yong Hyon Han was born in Hamnam, Korea in 1926 and was the oldest of five children.  He graduated from medical school at Seoul National University in 1948.  He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Korean Army Medical Corps, treating patients on the front line during the Korean War.  In 1953, Dr. Han came to the United States and completed his internship in Baltimore, MD and his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1959.   He continued practicing Anesthesiology for 30 years, in medical centers which include St. Vincent's Hospital, Montefiore Hospital and New York University Medical Center.  He was also Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at the NYU School of Medicine before his retirement. 

 

In 1961, he married Clara Han and they have 2 children, James and Stella.  After his retirement, he studied art history and painting at SUNY Purchase.  He became an avid oil painter and his works were displayed at many painting exhibitions.   He retired to Florida where he enjoyed many years of golf and tennis.  After 20 years in Florida, Joe and Clara recently moved up to Fort Lee, NJ.
