Mike was a great man. He was so loving, so giving, and always willing to push himself for the benefit of those he loved. While Mike was a teacher professionally, it was also a life style for him. He found every opportunity to lift someone up or teach a new skill. In my case, he taught music as my quartet member, but also various life lessons. One that comes you my mind most clearly is to make sure that every moment is filled with joy. Mike was a goof. He always had a joke to tell, always had a prank to pull. He always knew how you get a smile on someone's face.
I will always remember our hour long conversations as I was going to and from college on the greyhound bus. We would talk about anything and everything, and he would bring the wisdom of his age with an empathy that was unmatched. He was a great mentor, and I know that I'm a better person today because of the time spend with Mike. Rest in peace. Love you!
Ryan

What can we say - Mike was one of a kind. Our hearts are broken for the D'Andrea family. We knew Mike even before we all moved into Rolling Views together in 2002. To say Mike was a character would be understanding what "a character" means. He had the biggest heart of anyone I've ever known and moving from NYC to NJ and being the only gay couple in the development then, Mike greeted us with open arms and accepted us without question. And, impressively, he was the only person who didn't need a coat in zero degree temperatures! But that was Mike. Barreling down our development, and unloading goodies for days from A&S Pork Store! Mike and Nancy together formed part of our 'crew' from Rolling Views (West Paterson) and we had many adventures together - going to broadway shows, BroadwayCares fundraisers, choir concerts, Jenny's chinese restaurants, and dining together in New York City. Once we took him and the crew to China Grill, and he basically 'made love' to a lamb spare rib to the point where we nicknamed him "Don Cannoli." Mike also introduced us to some of the best places and nicest people we've ever met - from Little Italy to Hoboken and Augustino's. Not to mention the D'Andrea kids - we all became an extended family together. So it is with an incredibly heavy heart that we give our condolences toour extended family. And Don Cannoli, we will never forget you. God, protect his soul, and may you now rest in peace. Ti Amo Don Cannoli - La famiglia - Jeff & Scott Roehm Perlman

Nancy and Family,
My name is Andre’ and I grew up in Pal Pk. My mother (83) and I are so sorry and heartbroken to hear of Mike’s (“Mr D’s”) passing. He was so-so-so special... In my 56 years, I’ve never met anyone like Mike. He was like a father/big brother/best friend for me growing up. His warmth, kindness and love of music has never left me. I have so many memories of Mike that I’ll cherish for the remainder of my life. Lidos, Jahn’s, buttered rolls & light & sweet coffee, sponsor at my confirmation, my first new Wilson’s baseball glove and of course, cutting school to see Star Wars to name just a few. As sad as I know we all are, I know what a privilege it was having him in our lives. In reading all the Facebook posts I see how many lives he touched and I wanted to make you aware of how much he touched mine...
Our sincere condolences,
Andre’ Ninchritz

My name is Scott. I grew up in Ridgefield and moved to Pal Park when I was 12. I went to little League tryouts at Lindberg school right after we moved. I did not know anybody and sat in a seat by myself waiting to be called to try out. All the kids from town were sitting together. Suddenly there was a man that sat next to me and asked me my name. He saw that I was by myself. He was so sweet and he brought me up on the stage and introduced me to the coaches and then to the kids who are now my lifelong friends. We became music buddies since then. He was my hero that day!!

Mr. D'Andrea was not only my teacher for many years but also was friends of my parents. I vividly remember my first day back in class in 5th grade after my mom had passed. He let me stay in the music room as I sobbed in his office. It's something that I will never forget. He was the kindest teacher I ever had, Mrs. D'Andrea as well. <3

Mr D. was my music and band teacher. He taught me the flute and he taught me how to play the snare drum for the Memorial Day Parade. He was so influential to me while growing up and to so many others. He devoted his life to his family and students. Some of those students became life long friends. To some of them, he was the father they never had. After reading all the messages that continue growing on Facebook, it makes me smile to think of the incredible man he was and that everyone had such high regard for him. RIP, Mr. D. Thank you for the music, wisdom and kindness. I will never forget you.

Mr. D was a great Man and was always there to help. He loved the kids and they loved him as well. I had him as my music teacher and he went way beyond his teaching skills to bring out everyone's potential. Before class after class and even on his own time. He will be greatly missed.

Mr. D was such a sweet person with a heart of gold. I only had him as a home room teacher back in High School but we still managed to become close. I had an operation in sophomore year and he came to visit me with some classmates and brought me some ravioli. His support during a rough time in my life and my family’s lives was simply amazing and I will never forget him for that. Hope he rests peacefully and he will be greatly missed. Our prayers are with the family. Thanks, Mr. D!

Our family is so saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. D. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. My husband, I, and our children had him as a teacher in Lindbergh school. He and his band played at our wedding. He was loved by all of us and was our favorite teacher. In 2004, Mr. D. signed my son's field day shirt by saying Mr. D. loves the Bickford's. As he grew out of it, he always wanted to keep that shirt because of it. We have it still. He will be missed by so many people, but mostly his family. He was truly a great and kind man.

To the family of Mike D'Andrea,
Mike was always such a warm-hearted guy who cared so much about his students and their families. I personally knew Mike when he was a young man. He was a friend, teacher, mentor, and a fine example of a good man to my son, John, and so many others. I even remember Mike coming to our place on Lawn Avenue for a gathering to honor my daughter Kelly's confirmation. And so many other times to pick up John and his friends to go to other places. They kept in touch over the years and I just asked John recently about Mr. D. He said Mike had some serious health issues that were keeping him down.
I can only offer my condolences via this tribute as my family now lives so far away. Your family should be very proud of having Mike as a husband and Dad. He really was a great man and loved by so many and he gave so much of himself to others.
We cherish the memories of Mike D'Andrea and thank him for his wonderful contribution in teaching music and kindness by his example and time.
