Obituary of Lela Skiandos

"Lela Skiandos passed peacefully in her sleep at home on January 1, 2022. She was an honored mother, wife, Yiayia (grandmother), sister, and aunt.  Lela was born in Kilkis, Greece on June 15, 1944, and moved to America to start a new life with her husband John at the the age of 23 in 1967.  Lela took great pride in her family, home, and work and was meticulous in everything she did.

She honored her family, her home, and Greek traditions through her unwavering devotion to the people she cared about.  She loved little kids, and was most proud of her children and particularly her grandchildren. Lela loved being with her friends and family and cooking delicious Greek meals for everyone. She loved to have fun, dance, make jokes and do crossword puzzles.  Lela was a retired loan officer from a local bank and was known for her work ethic and charismatic personality.

Lela always taught her friends and family to be kind, thoughtful, and brave in hard moments, and her advice has inspired and helped us through this difficult time. All of our love and kindness goes to our friends, family and people who have supported us to take our next steps. We honor all of you for making our lives more peaceful, joyful and happier under these difficult conditions.

Lela was preceded in death by her beloved husband John, and her twin sister Ioanna.  Lela is survived by her two daughters, Elena and her husband Peter, and Anna and her husband Scott.  Lela is also survived by her three grandchildren John, Charlie, and Alexandra. She is also survived by her two older sisters, Kiki and Nitsa and her loving nieces and nephews.

A wake in her honor will be held at the Frank Patti & Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home in Fort Lee, NJ from 4pm-8pm on Thursday January 20.   Funeral services in her honor will be held at 11am on Friday January 21 at St. John the Theologian Church in Tenafly, NJ followed by interment in George Washington Memorial Park at Paramus, NJ.
