Obituary of Mary Kip Douglas

Douglas, Mary Kip of Leonia, died on June 11, 2022, at the age of 95. Born on May 3, 1927, in Lynchburg, VA, she was the oldest child of Lawrence A. Greene and Mary Spencer Greene, loving sister of Phyllis A. Parker and the late Lawrence A. Greene, Jr.

Mary Kip lived in Lynchburg, VA and Spindale, NC before her family moved to Jersey City where she graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944 and Stephens College in Columbia, MO in 1947. Mary Kip then worked at the Board of Missions and Church Extension of the Methodist Church in NYC.

Mary Kip married Livingston C. Douglas (Doug) in 1948 at Emory Methodist Church in Jersey City. Doug died in 1997.

Mary Kip and Doug moved to Leonia in 1952 where she was very active as a Leonia Girl Scout troop leader and longtime member of the Leonia United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working as a teller at Midland Bank in Ridgefield where she enjoyed friendships with colleagues and customers.

Mary Kip was an amazing mother to her four daughters. She was a terrific cook and baker. She enjoyed sewing and made many Halloween and school play costumes.

Mary Kip had her family's cheerful, kind personality. So many people have commented that she was on of the sweetest people they'd ever met. Mary Kip had physical limitations due to rheumatoid arthritis and was so appreciative of any help she received. She would say "thank you," many, many times each day. She was a joy to care for and taught us so much about aging with grace, joy and love.

Mary Kip is survived by her daughters Mary Carley Douglas and Linda Garden of White Rock, B.C., Canada, Mildred Douglas of Leonia, Laurie and Earl Harris of Ephratah, NY and Carol Douglas of Leonia. She has two loving grandchildren Adam Harris and Sarah Harris of Ephratah.

A private family graveside service will be handled by Frank A. Patti & Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home, which will be officiated by Pastor Frank Davis.
