Obituary of Yoonie Lee

Yoonie Lee (nee: Yoon-Jung Choi) was born on February 10, 1944 in the seaside city of Kangnung to Bong-Choon Choi and Kyu-Ram Lee, who raised 5 lovely daughters and 2 sons.  After graduating from Kyung Hee College as a Music major, Yoonie was known by many for her beauty and singing talents in pageants, winning first place as Miss Kangwon in 1966.  In 1968, she left the comfort of everyone she knew and loved for exciting new adventures in New York with her new husband.  Together, they built their new life in New Jersey where she was a beloved wife to David Lee, devoted mother and friend and most cherished grandmother.  

Her hometown region Kangwon is famous for its cuisine and Yoonie’s delicious cooking will be missed by friends and family, especially her kimchee and gamja jun.  Yoonie loved cooking for or hosting gatherings of friends and family in her home.  Fiercely loyal and protective, she would drop everything to help or provide for her family and friends.  

After seeing her children off to college, Yoonie enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and many creative pursuits including gardening, piano, singing and painting (with the occasional glass of Caymus).

Yoonie passed into eternal life surrounded by loved ones as she took her last breath at Hackensack University Medical Center on June 20th at 1:30 AM.  She leaves behind a legacy in her children, Jane and Richard, and her grandchildren, Marni and Nara.  She will forever be missed and remembered for her exuberance, determination and never-ending generosity.

이윤이(본명: 최윤정)님은 1944년 2월 10일 강릉시에서 5녀 2남을 키운 최봉춘과 이규람님 사이에서 태어났다.  경희대학교 음악과를 졸업한 후 미인대회에서의 아름다움과 가창력으로 많은 사랑을 받은 윤이는 1966년 미스 강원대회에서 1위를 차지했다. 1968년, 그녀는 그녀가 알아 온, 사랑하는 모든 사람과의 편안함을 뒤로하고 새 남편과 함께 뉴욕에서의 흥미진진한 새로운 모험을 위해 떠났다. 그들은 함께 뉴저지에서 새 삶을 구축해 나갔는데 윤이님은 그곳에서 헌신적인 어머니이자 친구이자 가장 소중한 할머니, 그리고 이석구님의 사랑받는 아내였다.

그녀의 고향 강원은 요리로 유명하며 윤이의 맛있는 요리는 특히 김치와 감자 전은 친구와 가족들이 그리워 할 것이다. 윤이님은 집에서 친구와 가족을 위해 요리를 하거나 모임을 주최하는 것을 좋아했다. 맹렬히 충성스럽고 보호적인 그녀는 가족과 친구들을 돕거나 부양하기 위해서는 모든 것을 버릴 그런 사람이었다.

아이들이 대학에 가는 것을 본 후, 윤이님은 손자들이 버릇없이 놀게하는 일과 정원 가꾸기, 피아노, 노래 부르기, 그림 그리기(가끔 Caymus 한 잔 마시며)를 포함한 많은 창작 활동을 즐겼다.

윤이님은 6월 20일 오전 1시 30분 해켄색대학교 의료원에서 마지막 숨을 거두며 사랑하는 이들에게 둘러싸여 영원한 삶에로 떠났다. 그녀는 자녀인 제인(Jane)과 리차드(Richard), 그리고 손자 매미( M)와 나라( Nar)에게 그녀의 유산을 남긴다. 그녀는 그녀의 충만함, 결단력, 끝없는 관대함으로 영원히 그리워지고 기억될 것이다.
