Obituary of Joseph Ponticorvo

Ponticorvo, Joseph, age 70 of Ridgefield, formerly of Union City, passed surrounded by family on September 19, 2022.   Born in Jersey City he was a graduate of Union Hill High School Class of 1970 where he was an accomplished athlete who made all County  and all State teams in both Football and Track.   He started working as a child in his family’s business Ponticorvo Farms of Union City and Ridgefield.  Ponticorvo Farms was more than a business or job to Joe, it was a family affair.  Sharing days with everyone in his family, in particular his mother and father (Henry and Jessie), and his Aunt Laura.  His wife and children all were apart of this landmark business.  Upon selling the business Joseph became an Assistant Purchasing Agent for Bergen County before finally retiring on September 1st of this year.    Joe had many interests and talents.   He was an accomplished musician playing piano, bass, and guitar and could often be found jamming at home with his son.  He loved to cook, in particular for his family and co-workers.  His Lasagna and seafood creations will be missed the most.  He had a talent for the arts which he shared with his children and grandchildren and was a collector of art.

He met his beloved wife Angie of 44 years at Ponticorvo Farms.  Shortly afterward their relationship flourished, and they were married.  Joseph and Angie built their loving family which he treasured.   Beloved father of Mayor Anthony Suarez and his wife Catherine, Susan Pesce and her husband Sean, and Angela Anastasi and her husband Mark.   Adored grandpa of  Alexandra, Johnny, Laura, Ronald, Matthew, Samantha, Max and Marky.  Dear brother of John Ponticorvo.   Cherished cousin of Josephine and Lee Ciocia.

The family will receive their friends on Friday from 4-8 pm at the Frank Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home at 327 Main Street Fort Lee.  The funeral will leave Saturday at 10:00 am for the celebration of his funeral mass in St. Mathews RC Church (Ridgefield) at 10:30 am.   If so desired, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital.   For more information call (201) 944-0100.
