Obituary of George John Van Vugt
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved, George Van Vugt, a man who was the epitome of strength and will live forever in our hearts and the memories we share. For all who even had the briefest encounter with him know that his smiles, dimples and charm can brighten even your darkest days. He leaves behind, his wife Jerrilyn Coulter of almost 29 years. His son George Van Vugt (MaryAnn Van Vugt). He was predeceased by his first wife, Angelina “Jean” Van Vugt, two daughter’s Dawn Viola and Denise Severino (Louis Severino). Among others left behind; his grandchildren, Maria Severino-Izzo, Jennifer Van Vugt, Robert Viola, Louis Jason Severino, Nicolas Severino, Christopher Van Vugt and his many great-grandchildren. Not to forget so many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
To say he’s talented would be an understatement; among some of his talents and hobbies: hunting, woodworking and construction. In his early years, he was part of the National Guard, owner of George Van Vugt Painting , Counselman, Volunteer Fireman and in charge of community committees responsible for projects such as building the Palisades Park Town Pool and Little League Field.
Later in life, he married again; they built a gorgeous lake side home, he became a restaurant owner, and joined his wife Jerrilyn in her catering business; becoming a great baker and master griller. Not only did he build their own home, he built other projects throughout their community. He also developed a love for traveling, together they traveled frequently with some favorite trips including locations in Europe, Central America, South America and Africa. George lived a long rich life; nonetheless, we can’t help but long for more time with him.
