Obituary of Jay Peter Hervey

Jay Peter Hervey of Fairview, died peacefully and unexpectedly in his sleep after a long series of struggles and illnesses on April 13, 2016. Jay was born March 13, 1968. He attended Madonna grade school, and Intermediate School, both in Fort Lee; Bergen Technical School Class of 1986 and Teterboro School of Aeronautics Class of 1996. He lived in Fort Lee most of his life, and moved to Fairview NJ in 2011. He was an expert mechanic and electrician and had been employed by Acme Door, Machler Rollling Door and Lucas Aerospace in Englewood NJ. From 1988 to 1992 Jay was stationed at Schofield Barracks, 25th Infantry Division in the 1st Battalion 27 Infantry, Home of the Wolfhounds, beside his Army-Brother-In-Arms Paul Woodburn. He served in 1st platoon as an infantryman till a shoulder injury forced him into combat driving. He did that until he was discharged. He rose to the rank of Specialist E-4 and was the Company commander's preferred driver. He overcame a lot of obstacles due to injury, he was always funny and ready to share what he knew. There were times when he was the most generous and thoughtful soul. He was particularly fond of his yellow mustang which he watched over and cared for like a jealous husband. He built it up practically from scratch. Jay was a natural mechanic, he could fix or make anything electrical or mechanical.. He loved animals and had a sharp and wicked sense of humor. He did not suffer fools gladly. He was a complicated guy, dearly loved and treasured by those who knew him well and understood him. Jay will be painfully missed by his sister Joan Hervey and her wife Linda Geczi of Manchester Twp NJ. His brother Glenn Hervey of Fort Lee. His brother Steve Hervey and his wife Rhonda Hervey of West Milford NJ, and their children Doug Hervey, David Hervey and Renee Talarico. His devoted friends Jack and Megan Manookian who supported him through thick and thin. Ed Ehrenberg who helped him find hope and peace. And Bill The Cat who now resides with Joan and Linda. He is predeceased by his parents Gerald and Mary Hervey of Fort Lee. He will be cremated and interred with full military honors at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 14 Chesterfield Arneytown RD, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 on Friday May 6th 1 pm. There will be an informal gathering at the Fort Lee/ Palisades Park Elks Club (201-592-9768), 536 10th St. Palisades Park, NJ on May 15th. Refreshments will be served and we will share memories, stories and laughs to honor Jay Peter's memory. All who knew him are welcome.
