I write this broken-hearted, having read only today about Mark's passing.
Mark was my roommate and best friend in grad school. The last time I talked to him was when he left his wedding for an assignment in London. We reconnected two years ago and had a long conversation, after which my wife looked at my beaming face and said, "Wow, you really loved that guy."
I really did, and I wondered why he hadn't responded to my emails since. My deepest sympathies to Lauren, Greg, Paul and the rest of his family. No, not sympathies; empathy. I hurt with you.
A belated goodbye, Mark, my friend. Thank you for contributing to my life.

I had the privilege of taking a Professor Mansfield's intelligence class last spring, during my last semester at the University of Miami.
He was truly a positive influence on my life, his class, his bearing and insights he provided, as well as speakers he brought to class influenced my decision to pursue a career in the Marine Corps.
I regret never having thanked him for his influence.
With sincere respect and sympathy,
Murphy Keefe

We are very sorry to hear of your loss and would like to extend our deepest sympathies to family and dear friends. "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more." says Revelation chapter 21 verse 4. May you please continue to love and support one another, especially during this time. It is our hope that you draw true comfort from our loving heavenly Father's promises found in the Holy Scriptures at John 5:25-29; Isaiah 33:24. Again so sorry.

I am an Italian University of Miami graduate that had the honor of attending Professor Mansfield class on the world of intelligence. I can say without any doubt that I remember him and his course as the best memory of my college years. He was truly an example and a mentor for me. I will miss him very much.
My deepest condolences to all of his family.
Sincerely,
Giovanni

Even though I known Mark a short period of time it felt like a lifetime. He was one of my patients at Mercy Hospital, the stories we shared with one another are unforgetable. The smile he put on my face and the smile i got back in return were priceless. I can hear his voice now, "Ernest Your A Prince." It hurt me deeply to hear that he'd left this world so soon, but put me at peace that he's at rest and no longer suffering.
-Love,
Ernest

Mark was a brilliant advocate and fierce defender of the Agency and its mission. I got to know him first as a reporter and later as a colleague. He was generous with his time and offered onthemoney advice to me as a rookie press secretary at a companion agency.
Mark literally wrote the book on how to do a tough and important job. And he wrote it with style and grace.
Greatly to be missed.
RIP.

My condolences to the Mansfield family. Although I did not know Mark I would like to add if he is anything like his twin, the world lost a wonderful man who gave so much.

I had the privilege of working with Mark at CIA. He was conscientious, efficient and a very effective spokesman for the Agency. He gave excellent public relations advice while adhering to the Agency's need to maintain secrecy. He was kind in his dealings with others and a joy to work with.

My condolences to Mansfield family. May it help you and your family to know that Luke 20:38 say: He is a God not of the dead but of the living for they are all living to him. Yes, to him, all his loyal ones who have died faithful to him are as good as alive, for their ressurection is a certainty. Please find some strength and comfort from this in your days ahead.

My heartfelt condolences to Mark's family.
I worked closely with Mark during the mid 90s and will always remember his amazing professionalism, great sense of dedication to the CIA and his disarming ability to make you laugh even in the most difficult of times. He had an innate ability to walk the very fine line between openness and non-disclosure. He was a superb spokesman and a great friend.
