Obituary of Nover Gulekjian
Nover Gulekjian entered into her eternal rest on January 9, 2017. She is survived by her loving daughter, Sira Gulekjian and her loving son, Dr. Jacques Hagop Gulekjian, her beloved grandchildren, Tania, Araz and Céline, her beloved great-grandchildren, Maxime, Nicolas, Aline, Elia, Taline, Charles, Henry and Levon, and her loving sisters Araxie Hakimian and Marie-Jeanne Der Torosian, as well as all her extended family members.
We say goodbye to Nover Gulekjian, a lady who meant a lot to her family and friends. Her name Nover means GIFT… she gifted us with her calm, peaceful manner and dignity. She had a pure heart, a complex history and magical character that blessed all who met her.
Born in Tarsus, Turkey in 1921, Nover Haigian is the oldest of 4 sisters, Eugenie, Araxie and Marijan. By the age of four, she arrived in Beirut where the land and language was to be her new home. By 16 years old, she was married, by 23 she was a widow with two children. Her dedication was to educate her children and deliver good values. By 50 years old, she was responsible for sewing the American Univ. of Beirut medical staff uniforms. Nover helped her son and daughter to grow in a lively town and enjoy their lives, relentlessly supporting their education goals and see them married with a grandchild. Lebanon’s war forced her to move countries once more, to unite with her son and daughter and settle eventually in Fort Lee, N.J. on January 9, 1977, this was 40 years exactly to her last day with us this week. She made sure that we saw her alertness and embrace her soft soul within us to the last days. She always wanted that we celebrate and live our lives as she watches from above.
