I do not remember how I got to know Jeannine, but that must have been sometime in 1968, the year I moved to New York from Japan. I worked with her to translate a Japanese book into English. That was around 1970, when she lived near Columbia University. The book is this:

Then Jeannine went to work for an American publishing house in Tokyo, for a year (as I recall). After that, for some reason, she disappeared from my sight, although I saw her once in the lobby of McGraw-Hill Building where my office was. She appeared preoccupied.
As a copyeditor, Jeannine taught me some interesting rules. Her opinion of certain writers was sharp.
