When I was in middle school, I used to play a ton of basketball at the Asphalt Green in my old neighborhood, and Robert would often be there. He was a very friendly guy, and when he noticed I was really into basketball, he started to give me tips, exercises, and would help me shoot around. When we were at the gym at the same time, we'd do our own separate drills and workouts, then often shoot around together, talking about everything you could think of related to basketball. I remember some of the deep NBA conversations we used to have to this day. What really tore me is that as I entered high school, I began to play less basketball at the AG, and when I went, I wouldn't see him there. I'm not sure if he wasn't in condition to play, but I had so much going on once I entered high school that I kind of forgot about him, and then I moved out of the neighborhood (sadly). For some reason today, he happened to cross my mind, and I googled him because I was procrastinating going to bed, only to find his obituary. Thinking about Robert tonight brought me back to my middle school days, in 6th in 7th grade, where I had this immense energy and motivation that wish I had today (im a junior in high school now). I just remember being so passionate about basketball and sports in general; the thought of the things that are on my mind today, such as girls, partying and various paraphernalia would have never even crossed my mind then. I even checked to see if I had your contact, and sure enough, I did. Guess getting back in touch isn't an option anymore. Thank you Robert, for being a mentor, and for reminding me of my youth, when life was just a little more simple and bliss.

Robert was an excellent, generous and loyal friend. He certainly dished it out, and absolutely got his fair share in return. A truly unique individual who will shine on in perpetuity in the memories of the many who knew him. He certainly did things his own way and lived on own his distinct terms. If anything can be gleaned and applied from the mayor of Battery Park City's life, it would be to stay true to oneself. If the Buffalo Bills ever win a Super Bowl, and that's a huge IF, their biggest and most loyal fan will be celebrating somewhere.
