Obituary of Jennifer M. Denniston-Lee

Jennifer Denniston affectionately known as “Jen” “Tulu” was born on September 14th 1962 in Tops Hills St Elizabeth on the island of Jamaica.  She was a blessing to Goldie Joseph, Elfreida Denniston and Balfour Denniston.  Jen was one of eight children Sharon, Junior, Balfour, Andrene, Sheryl, Sonya and Carlene.

She immigrated to the United States in August, 1979 where she lived in Brooklyn. She attended Washington Irving High School for Girls.   She later attended LaGuardia Community College where she earned her Associate Degree in Dietary. One of Jen’s greatest assets is her people skills and that coupled with her passion for doing hair she then earned her Cosmetology Certification.  Her beautiful locks were her signature and she wore it proudly.  With an expanding family, Jen entered the dialysis field and this is where her skill set flourished.  She respected her patients and treated them along with their family with care and dignity. Many of her co-workers were her friends and this was evident in the flow of visitors we received while at the hospital. We heard so many stories of her kindness, compassion and care.

Jen was loving, warm, engaging and always there to provide a helpful hand.  Jen was an advisor and confidant to many which resulted in friends calling her “The Mayor.” Jen loved her children she was “Mama Bear.” Their accomplishments were publicized and shared with anyone who would listen. Grades, new jobs anything small or large was received and shared with pride and joy.

Her guilty pleasure was watching Lifetime movies and TV One Uncensored. We never understood but those moments were her “quiet time.”  She could possibly list every Lifetime movie and aligned it with current situation; but going home to Jamaica was her ultimate favorite thing.  She loved going back we believe that was her Oasis. She would immerse herself in the people, food and rhythm of the Island.

She leaves behind great memories to be cherished by her beloved husband, James, her wonderful children, Alexandria, Anwar and Jesse (Chelsea); her mother, Elfreida Denniston and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.  Jen’s joy and vibrancy will be missed.

We will always celebrate the life and memory of this amazing woman!

Memorial Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in Frank A. Patti & Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home with Service at 2:00 PM.
