I started playing tennis again after 20 yrs and decided to google my former HS coach Mr. Sanquiche. Sadly I see he passed last year on my birthday. Mr. San had a heart of gold, he would literally take the shirt off his back and give it to his students. On a personal level he helped keep me in line by always giving me advice and opening the door to the great sport of tennis, RIP Mr. San, un abrazo para ti amigo...Victor Ocampo

I was sad to hear of Mr. Sanquiche's passing. In the early 1980's at Dwight Morrow, he was my Spanish teacher and tennis coach. I remember the glint in his eye and his knowing smile. A gem of a man. Roger Plawker, DMHS '84

Mr. “Arturo” Sanquiche was also my Spanish teacher. I am a graduate of Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey, Class of 1967. I loved “Mr. Sanquiche” very much. In fact, I think all of his students loved him as their teacher and friend. I send my love and comfort to all his family and friends.

Mr. Sanquiche was my Spanish teacher in 1962 through 63. He was an extraordinary teacher. I always had a secret crush on him. Truth be told, I think most of the girls in class did as well. Over the ensuing years, I have had a couple of occasions to see him again. One was probably 35 years after high school. Yet when seeing me for the first time in so many years, he exclaimed, “Patty Burman” as if he had only seen me weeks before. It was nice to get to know the man in addition to the teacher. I also became a teacher at one time of English not Spanish, but I took with me his love of learning. I have never forgotten him, and I still will not. My love for him goes out to his family.

This note comes from a 73-year-old retired teacher in Florida. Mr. Arturo Sanquiche was absolutely my favorite teacher, and most importantly, the inspiration for what I myself became after college: a Spanish teacher! He was brilliant, and was beyond exceptional at his craft of teaching language. I had the pleasure of seeing him a few times after high school.. between my age of 22 and 68..... and it always made me so happy to let him know that HE was the reason for my chosen profession. I have more wonderful memories of him than you can imagine, and I am so happy and proud to have not only known him, but to have been his student. It was so wonderful to see him in 2014, when he graced our class of 1964 with his presence at our 50th reunion... having been only one of three teachers from our class who attended. Me Sanquiche was a great teacher! He inspired my enduring love of Spanish language and literature and the rich cultural heritage of Latin America. He would take us on field trips to museums in Manhattan. I will always remember him and be thankful for his influence.

Mr Sanquchie was my favorite teacher at Dwight Morrow High School. He always made the students feel wonderful to be alive and to celebrate life. He brought the best music to us and he made school fun and engaging. I will always remember when he brought live latin jazz music to our school dance. He was the coolest teacher ever. I knew him from 1967-1971. RIP Mr Sanquchie.

We are so sorry to not be with everyone tomorrow. Our whole family was so saddened by the news. We remember the beautiful time we had with Arturo and Carolyn in Puerto Rico-- a joyous family reunion and an unforgettable experience. We will always cherish those memories. To the Family of Art Sanquiche, So sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Sanquiche, as he was known by many of his students was a very calm and sincere person. I took part in one of several trips to Puerto Rico and Spain. As an advisor of the Spanish Club at DMHS, Mr. Sanquiche went to great lengths introducing his students to the Spanish culture. As a member of the Coaching Staff at DMHS, Art was instrumental in overseeing the Athletic programs, in which in conducted with dignity. My sincere condolence to the Family of Mr. "Art" Sanquiche

A good man who charmed all by his beautiful smile. He charmed me and loved my sons Jonathan and Andrew. A life friend after an amicable divorce with whom I have many fond memories-my tennis partner and instructor, a trip to Puerto Rico with his students where we impulsively were married by the Ambassador, a scrabble opponent-played one game with him, beat him and resigned forever while I was ahead. (He later read the scrabble dictionary like a Bible). He spent many hours with Andrew, who held his hand during his hospitalization. Art would cook rice and beans for Andrew, introduced him to pastellas , now and then clean up his kitchen and then enjoy a cigar in Andrew's apartment. And, of course, traveled together to Art's favorite location-Atlantic City. Thursday, with sadness we will say a final good by to this good man.
