Obituary of Hope Thoon

Hope Thoon, long time Fort Lee resident, passed away on October 15th 2019.  She worked at the Bergen County Board of Elections, and was an active member in the service of the community.  A leader in the Republican County Committe, she did not follow the party lines but looked out for all people regardless of party.  She was an intelligent and independent thinker.  In 1973, she was elected to the Fort Lee Board of Education and served 2 three year terms.  She was responsible for acquiring funding for and building the expansion of School 4.  She worked with Rabbi Berger to help raise the funding for,  and building of, the New Synagogue of Fort Lee. 

She was also a member of the Mental Health Board of Bergen County.  She worked hard as an advocate for people with mental health disabilities.  Her service to the community was long and distinguished. 

She is survived by her son William Fountain and his daughter Jasmine, her daughter Rennika Pickman-Thoon, her husband Michael and their children Brennan and Julianna, and her sonThomas Hom Thoon, his wife Tian, and their son Tino Wang Hom Thoon. 

Visiting will be at Frank Patti Funeral Home on Monday October 21st from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm.  The funeral service will be on Tuesday morning at 11:30 am with internment to follow at the George Washington Memorial Cemetery.
