Obituary of Evelyn Yokos

Evangelia (Manolis) Yokos, “Evelyn”, named after her father’s mother, was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 25, 1948 and passed away on November 3, 2019.    Evelyn is survived by her younger sister, Irene, her husband, George, her two sons, Haralambos and Nicholas, and her two granddaughters, Siena Evangelia (her beloved namesake) & Callista Stephania.

Evelyn’s parents were Nicholas Dimitrios Manolis and Fanny (Makridis) Manolis who were married in 1947. When Evelyn was 4 years old, she moved with her parents to 2140 Linwood Avenue, Fort Lee, New Jersey where she lived for the rest of her life.  Evelyn was a graduate of Fort Lee High School and Washington College where she majored in history and completed a teaching certificate.  After college, Evelyn worked as an elementary school teacher.  Evelyn was a self-described religious agnostic, a life-long Democrat, and a member of the Unitarian Universalists. First and foremost, she was a devoted and self-less wife and mother --- the best ever.

Evelyn always showed compassion for others.  Her faith in humanity was indomitable.  She struggled with multiple sclerosis in ways that were admirable to all who knew her, and she never wavered in her engagement with the world.  She loved to laugh.  Her greatest joy was her family. She was loved and will be missed beyond words by those of us who will honor and treasure our memories of her forever.
