I recently learned of Dr. Napoli’s passing and I send my deepest condolences to his family. I had known Dr. Napoli for several years and found him so warm, bright, compassionate, deeply caring and deeply human. I miss his humor and smile and I learned much from him. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Napoli attended high school with my brother-in-law, also named Joe, who predeceased him.Through my family visits I met Joe and his family. Some people have a light within that makes their ordinary actions special. Dr. Napoli was one such person. I remember a generous, respectful person genuinely interested in others and never missing a chance to help and encourage. I send comfort to his lovely family. I'll be praying for your strength and focus to fulfill your own special work on earth as Joe did so well.

There are no words. This seems absolutely unreal that my Uncle Joe has left this world. I have such big memories of loud voices and big stories in Nana’s kitchen, blueberry pie, Thanksgiving parades and the best winter breaks a kid could ask for. I love you Aunt Loretta, Gina and Laura. I did this puzzle in his memory. I remember him doing it upside down. May his memory be a blessing.

Joe was an amazing thoughtful and very civil human being. I worked with him for many many years in APA activities. Always looking out for ways to include early career and new faces to the process. We will miss him terribly at APA events.

It is with great sadness that I offer my heartfelt sympathy to Loretta and Joe's family. I am blessed to have experienced Joe's friendship, collaboration and partnership for over 30 years. Joe's gifts were abundant and far-reaching, especially his ability to offer strength to people in crisis. His dedication to promote resiliency and social justice goes beyond words.
Joe's legacy of compassion, wisdom and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all those whom he touched.

Joe, it was a privilege to know you for 20 years: always enthusiastic, fun, caring, fighting for psychiatry, psychiatrists and patients. A great loss, but a great life and an inspiration to us all.
My sympathy and condolences to Loretta and your family.

My heartfelt condolences to you all on Joe's passing. I knew Joe for over 30 years from our work together in the New Jersey Psychiatric Association and American Psychiatric Association, where we often succeeded each other in official positions. I recall his boundless energy, dedication, enthusiasm and personal resilience in fighting for important principles regarding proper treatment for those needing mental health care. My memories include the many times we drove together from his office in Fort Lee to Philadelphia, to Maryland or to Washington DC when we would spend sometimes up to 5 hours in the car and never stop talking enthusiastically about an endless range of topics.
