Thank you to all of you who joined us in celebrating Papi's live. Allow me to share wiht you special dedication from all the siblimgs that Anita expressed so eloquenlty.
Gracias a todos quw nos acompanan a celebrar la Vida de Papi. Permítanme compartir con ustedes la especial dedicación de todos los hermanos que Anita expresó con tanta elocuencia.
On behalf of my family, I would like to begin by thanking everyone who is here
today and for those who have sent their condolences. We have received countless phone
calls, text messages, thoughts, prayers, flowers and meals. They have been both
comforting during this difficult time and have been a reminder of the impact that my
father had on so many others. He would have been so honored and humbled by all of the
love of his family and friends in this church today.
My name is Anita, and I am the daughter of Segundo Joaquin Porras Zambonino.
My father was a great man. He was dearly loved by his wife Teresita, children,
grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, daughters in law, son in law, cousins, nieces,
nephews and friends. Although he came from simple beginnings, he worked very hard to
provide his children with a better life. He had to leave his family and immigrated to the
United States alone, without any resources, but he was never afraid of taking on new
challenges. After working very hard, he was able to bring his wife and children to this
country. Despite obstacles, he helped many friends and family members migrate to the
United States and he took such pride in being the pioneer of our family. He and my
mother built a strong foundation for us and were a prime example of how dedication and
hard work can not only create a powerful legacy, but achieve the American Dream.
Family meant everything to my father. It was fitting that we all called him Papi,
because he was a father figure to not only his children but to many. He was an active
father who was very involved in our lives and supported us in anything we did. He was
never in a rush when it came to spending time with his children and was a very patient
man. Even after working two jobs, he never complained about being tired and made time
to take us to the park or the beach on Sundays. However, he was also a stern authority
figure and taught us valuable lessons on respect, morals, and family values. Yet, at the
same time he was our biggest supporter, taught us how to believe in ourselves, and never
doubt our own potential. Also, it is truly remarkable how our parents stressed the
importance of education in our lives and made many sacrifices to send us all to private
schools. Throughout the years, my Dad’s strong and strict demeanor transitioned to a
softer and more gentle nature that his grandchildren would go on to know and love.
He was also Papi to his grandchildren, who viewed him as their hero. Their
version of Papi was someone who was always present and there to guide them. He
enjoyed chaperoning field trips, passing down his handyman skills to grandsons, packing
up his blue Suburban with as many grandkids as possible, and especially being the first
one there to pick them up and drop them off at school. He was a valuable member of the
Leonia community- and a treasured member of the group of Abuelos who waited
patiently for their grandchildren everyday. Papi loved sharing his life stories and love for
life with his grandchildren. He could be found dancing or taking selfies with his
granddaughters at every party and always posing for pictures with all his grandsons.
Although he was not always a man of many words- he would often sit back on the
sidelines and observe the beautiful family he created in complete awe and visible pride.
At every family gathering and holiday, his warmth was palpable. His smile lit up every
room and somehow he made everyone feel seen, heard and loved.
Whether you knew him as Papi, Abuelito, Pollito, Segundo or Joaquin, he was
exactly the same to us all. He was your trusted friend and you knew it from the moment
you met him. As we grieve the loss of this incredible man, remember that grief is the
price of love. Gracias Papi, por sus sabias enseñanzas, sus consejos, su amor, su esfuerzo
y sus sacrificios para toda la familia. Nunca morirá en nuestros corazones y siempre
estará presente en nuestras vidas. Papi, thank you for everything you’ve given us during
your precious time on earth. May you Rest in Peace. We love you forever. Adiós mi querido Papi.

Remembering all the childhood events when we would gather together. One thing I always looked up to with my uncle is the legacy he left behind. He can rest easy knowing that he brought so much good into the world. Something to aspire to.
