Obituary of Joseph L Maurer, Sr.

Joseph L. Maurer, Sr., 93, of New Milford NJ, formerly of Palisades Park, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023 at home with his family. Joe was born to the late Fidelis and Agnes Mathilda (Trapp) Maurer (aka Frikkie and Tillie) and raised in North Bergen, NJ. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War where he was a Staff Sargent in the US Air Force and In Flight Mechanic.  Upon completion of his enlistment, he worked for Eastern Airlines as a Freight Agent which led to his lifelong career in freight transportation. Joe worked in the freight forwarding industry holding executive positions for several companies and finishing his career as a branch owner of Team Worldwide in New Jersey which he started in 1990 with his son Joe, Jr. In his life, Joe enjoyed working on home projects where he recruited family members to assemble his work crew, time at Lake Naomi in the Poconos, sitting on the deck, visits from his family, talking about his time in the Air Force and last, but not least, sipping his scotch.

Joe was predeceased by his son Mark and his siblings Vincent, Eugene, James, Marion Forenza, and Ruth Ann.  Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Carolyn (Campbell), his siblings Robert Maurer and Thomas Maurer, his children Maureen Sant Anna and her husband Michael, Joseph Maurer Jr. and his wife Kathleen, Brian Maurer and his wife Kim, Keith Maurer and his wife Jennifer, and Kerri-Lynn Maurer. Joe was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren, Leanne, Lauren, Jamie, Joseph, Jennifer, Erin, Gabrielle, Gina, Caitlyn, Declan, Kyle, and Colton. Joe was also a great-grandfather to Emma, Grayson, Sadie, Hallie, Nora, Adelyn, Hannah and Daniel as well as uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass in his honor will be held at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph RC Church in Oradell, NJ on Saturday, June 3, 2023. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org
